Ashura Program

Saturday, November 1, 2014

NOTE: This program is cancelled due to heavy construction in the basement. We apologize for the inconvenience.

MCCUC will host a program about Ashura, led by Imam Fakhruddin Alvi, from Maghrib to Isha.

When Prophet Muhammad (s) entered Madina and saw the Jews fasting: “because that day Allah saved Musa from Pharaoh,” the Prophet (s) said, “nahnu ahaqq wa awla bi musa minkum – We have more right to Musa than you,” and fasted that day. Whoever fasts `Ashura, Allah (swt) will erase his past year’s sins.

On `Ashura Allah (swt) accepted the repentance of Adam (as); saved Nuh (as) from the flood, extinguished the fire for Ibrahim; spoke directly to Musa (as), restored Ayyub (as) to health, delivered Bani Israel from captivity and destroyed Pharoah and his army; on that day Sayyidina `Isa (as) was raised to Paradise. On that day Sayyidina al-Husayn (as) attained Martyrdom.

Allah saved Sayyidina Musa (as) on that day and so we fast. When we draw near to Allah by means of fasting, or sacrifice, Allah will save us from all our difficulties, our sicknesses and our problems. Any worship on `Ashura, has immense value for it is a Day of Salvation and Divine intervention.
