Laylat al-Qadr is the night on which the Holy Qur’an, Allah’s Final revelation and guidance to human beings was sent down to Sayyidina Muhammad (s). As such it is the culmination of the Prophet’s love, devotion and sincerity, for the Quran’s revelation initiated Sayyidina Muhammad (s) into his Prophetic Mission and the dawn of a new Era for human beings, the Era of Truth.

Thus commemorating this night is essential on the Ummah, for this night is, as it were, the dawn of Islam, the birth of the Ummah and the culmination of all goodness as embodied in the Prophet (s).

The Prophet (s) called on his Ummah to observe the Night of Power with worship, as he did, and to forego sleep and amusement in order to do this.

Allah described the Night of Power as equivalent to one thousand months – an entire lifetime. Thus spending that time in prayer, invocation, praising the Prophet (s), reciting Allah’s Book and its day in fasting during Ramadan, and remembering God at all times, is equivalent to a lifetime in worship.
